Worship

Sunday worship is at the heart of our life together.  We come together to share joys and concerns, to sing, and to listen to the ancient texts of our faith. While most services are led by Rev. Nancy Duncan, many others participate in leading worship and sharing the stories of our lives and faith. Jesus’s command to love one another is reflected in our efforts to reach out to folks outside of our faith community, including folks of other faiths or no faith. Everyone is welcome!  We worship at 10 am on Sunday Mornings.

A Brief History

Jan. 30, 1983 the first service was held in a local home. June 5, 1983 church moved to the Waldoboro Grange. Broad Bay’s present building was built in 1838 and purchased in October 2002 from First Baptist Church.

For Children and Families

We seize the opportunity to involve children in many aspects of our church life from ringing the church bell, lighting the candles, reading scripture, writing prayers, designing bulletin covers, passing the offering plate, or playing a musical instrument.

Every Sunday during worship, our pastor invites the children to come forward to talk about the lesson for the day. Adults listen closely as the children share their questions and observations and the pastor responds directly to their thoughts.

Children participate in outreach projects including Heifer Project, the Waldoboro Food Pantry, & free community luncheons. They are often found designing cards for folks who are sick or celebrating birthdays. During church school which is offered during a portion of the worship service, activities by our enthusiastic and creative church school teachers.

Music

Music is a vital part of worship. While Broad Bay’s music is frequently centered around the organ, with organist Carroll Smith on the bench, Broad Bay also hosts guest musicians who bring other instruments including violin, guitar, sax, or recorder. The choir sings periodically throughout the year. Our Hook and Hastings organ was built in Boston in 1875 (525 pipes, 15,000 parts).  It was substantially restored in 2008 by David Wallace.
